Saint Martin is a party island. The Carnival takes place in the month of February on the French side, and in the month of May on the Dutch side. Those who like beautiful costumes and parties cannot afford to miss this event. The streets are crowded and the ambiance is at its best. It is THE event to attend!
Zouk, beguine, meringue, reggae, salsa, bachata, gospel, mambo, chachacha, calypso, gwo ka, kompas, steel band; for your pleasure, music is always there on the island.
We could not afford to forget mentioning the games of dominoes in the culture section of our guidebook. In the bars or at home, West Indians love to play dominoes.
Formerly reserved to men, the pits (arenas) where the cockfights take place are always crowded. A cruel game for some or a genuine sport for others, cockfights are a part of the Caribbean culture.

The typical shades, lights and colours of the Caribbeans have always attracted many artists. Painters, sculptors, photographers, contemporary art, naïve art; our island inspires many. Do not hesitate to come and meet the local artists and visit their workshops and galeries all over the island.
